Job Description: Peer Recovery Support Specialist (Recovery Coach),
Wey of Life Peer Recovery Center
Required: Personal lived experience with recovery from substance use disorder. Preferred: 1 year of continuous recovery.
Organizational Profile: Wey of Life Peer Recovery Center is a new Peer Recovery Support Center in Weymouth, Massachusetts, offering individual and group support for people in recovery from substance use disorder and their families. We are part of the South Shore Peer Recovery organization.
Job Summary:
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist/Recovery Coach (PRSS) is an essential part of the Wey of Life team helping to fulfill our mission to “create a safe space in the heart of the community where people with lived experience join together to build skills, provide support and find hope in recovery.” The PRSS will work with individuals who seek recovery support services; at the drop-in center and in the community. The PRSS will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to individuals with substance use disorder to help them initiate and/or maintain recovery and prevent relapse while promoting long-term recovery and overall wellness.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Meet one-on-one with individuals to facilitate change and support them in taking an active, self-directing role in their recovery process.

Work with individuals to create individualized Recovery Wellness plans with specific goals and actions aimed at building recovery capital.

Model the optimistic spirit of recovery, self-advocacy, personal responsibility, and skillfully use one’s own recovery journey as a tool.

Actively identify and support linkages to community resources that support the individual’s goals and interests: communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual aid groups, professional services, etc

Collaborate with institutions and stakeholders to provide effective recovery support services

Maintain appropriate records and data collection according to required time frames.

Maintain confidentiality regarding information received during the facilitation of recovery support services

Engage in continuing professional development relative to recovery support services.

Report to designated supervisor and participate in individual and group supervision.

Administrative duties to include recovery plan creation, data collection and entry.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:

Personal lived experience with substance use disorder is required.

A minimum of one year of continuous recovery from substance use disorder and demonstrated active participation in one’s pathway of recovery.

Experience working in community based recovery setting preferred.

A genuine empathy and caring for others and the desire to help them on their path to wellness.

Familiarity with multiple pathways of recovery and ability to support them.

Willingness to share one’s own experience in an open and skillful manner.
-
Completion of CCAR’s RCA (or ability to within 6 months of hire).

Understanding of and adherence to professional boundaries.

Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation.

Timeliness, professionalism, record-keeping and strong organizational skills.

Ability to work independently using good judgment.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Office and database systems.
Reporting Relationship: The PRSS works as part of the Wey of Life team with staff and volunteers reporting to the Director or designated Supervisor.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to move about the office and community using own transportation.

Ability to communicate clearly verbally by phone and in person.

Flow of work and character of duties require normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination in duties much of the time.

Benefits/Compensation: This position has part-time and full-time hourly options, based in the Weymouth office, with regional travel required. Schedule requires occasional night and weekend work. Competitive pay offered. Benefits package paid holidays, and sick time.
